Same reason a lot of people hate spinach or . When April rolled around, I was mired in a mass of studying: Spanish, Macroeconomics, Psychology, and Calculus. Now, 6 years later (and 8 years later than high school math) it all came flooding back and I could basically phone in my calculus homework. But I wouldn't want to teach it to high school students. Also, we had the option to do Stats in either semester. For the one with an unprepared mind, Vedanta is like calculus for a person who is learning basic mathematics. However I DO know and love statistics–I just took a grad class in Stat and thoroughly enjoyed it. I really enjoyed calculus in high school and college… but it's been 20 years since I studied it. Calculus was like lifting weights for my brain. I am so incredibly grateful that I get to learn calculus. I do pity you guys quite a bit as I thoroughly enjoyed Calculus 2. Being on the edge of a wave, being out there and potentially falling and getting crunched In that moment, you have to figure it out -- it's kind of like a life or death situation. I did it in the first semester and was happy because I got it out of the way. That sounds dramatic and over-exaggerated, but calculus has taken my lukewarm "like" for math to an absolute love! I never bought that album, although I drunkenly fell in love with “Float On” years later, forgiving it for what it had done like it was an old girlfriend who had been unfaithful. Full disclosure: I teach AP Calculus and I've never taught AP Statistics. Unfortunately, the more common question is “Why do people like math?” As explained by these responders, math simply isn't taught in an interesting way — and our cultural stigma against it certainly doesn't help, either.
